It's so fun to get new things for Rachel. My sweet sister-in-law sent this gem. Rachel absolutely adores this book. We do read it, but it's often a toy because it has lots of the crinkly stuff. And it's well placed crinkly stuff. I love this because it's not just a "toy book". It actually has a good story to it. Nice repetitive text. So it's also good for James to help read to Sissy. ;) Little does he know he's working on his beginning reading skills, too! Win, win!
I really like this one and would recommend it to anyone looking for infant books!

Rachel's Favorites 0-4 months
Rachel gets read to just about every day.. Sometimes it is only at bedtime though... Juggling 2 is definitely different than just having one to entertain! HA!
Here are some that she loves in no particular order:
Who Do You See? (she loves this because it is a soft book that she also loves to eat!!!), Night-Night, Baby, What Does Baby See?, baby giggles.

My Face Book
So mostly in true 2nd child fashion, Rachel reads books that we already owned from when James was little. But during our library visits we have been looking for new books for her as well. This is one of our great new finds. Rachel absolutely loves looking at the kiddos in this book.
When we brought it home I noticed the writing at the top...huh??? Yeah it's a bilingual book English/Burmese... They have it in all sorts of languages apparently, our library just happens to have the English/Burmese one. Kinda random... I'll be honest I don't even know where they speak Burmese.

Begin Smart Series
I don't always write about specific series for kiddos books, but this series of books has really grown on me. They offer books for all age ranges of little ones. This is awesome for anyone {including a former Reading Specialist!} Sometimes I am not exactly sure what James should be expected to know/do since I was not an early childhood person....
When James was little we had quite a few of the black and white ones for birth-six month olds. Those were really some of his favorites! At the library recently I found the book pictured above {along with 2 others in the series}, and after reading these I can say I think they are great! I loved all of the fruits and vegetables in the book. The pictures were great and really gave us a lot to talk about.
Talking about the pictures and not just reading the words in books can be really helpful for little ones. It can really help improve their vocabulary. Sometimes I just want to read what it written, but in these sorts of books you just feel like you should do a little more talking. Exactly what James' speech therapist wants us to do!
If you run across these book, I highly recommend them!

James' Favorites at 10 Months
Oh my goodness, James began to love playing with books. Couldn't make this momma happier! Now he could be eating them just as much as he is playing or "reading" them.
Here are a few of his favorites:
1.

2.
James often picks this book at bedtime. I think that he loves the little song! Sandra Boynton writes really fun books.

James has really started to like "feely" books this month. I highly recommend this book because the "feely" parts are really big. Other books "feely" areas are pretty small for this wee one.

James' 9 Month Picks
It is really fun for me to lay about 5 books in front of James and have him "pick" one. Right now he wants all things baby.

2. James loves to look at the babies faces. This has been a favorite forever.
3. He loves all the various versions of this: Polar Bear, Polar Bear; Baby Bear, Baby Bear.
4. He loves trying to grab the baby's faces in this one.
5. He just loves looking at other kids!
His top 5 are
1. He loves to shake this one around!

James' Early Favorites
I have been reading to James almost from the moment he was born. {Well once he could stay awake long enough!} It was so amazing to me how he had preferences right from the start. My goal in sharing with you some of his favorite books at the different ages is to save you from buying all 352 books like I did. Ha! This is a list of books that I would say he loves from about 2-6 months.
1. We got this one when he was around 4 months old. He loves it because Mommy will let him eat it!
2. This was truly a favorite because he loved getting to look at the mirrors. I could lay him in the Boppy and prop this book next to him and he would be content for ages. Lately he does not seem as interested, but it was worth every penny.
3. I had always heard that babies love black and white and this book proved it to me. He loved looking at these pictures {especially the back page which is a black and white checkerboard}. Again he isn't as interested in this one lately, but he would have been content with just this one and Mirror Me at first.
4. What a classic! He truly loved hearing me read it. I think because it is so short and sweet.
